High above Lake Atitlan, in the secluded mountain village of Chuaquenum, there was a gathering and celebration. In this remote region, that can only be reached on foot or by 4-wheel drive, the air was cool but the sun was warm. The kids ran to meet the new visitors to the village. In July 2016, the president of Miracles In Action with a group of workers and donors, participated in the grand opening of the new school building. There was music, dedications, dancing, and speeches, all while the women of the village were preparing lunch. The smoke from the cooking food wafted through the air giving a light haze to the area and the scent of the food to come. Following the ceremony everyone was invited to have lunch. The team from Miracles In Action brought in water filters for each home in the village and after they were assembled the villagers learned how to use them. Finally with a bundle of contained excitement the children were asked to line up, and one by one each student received a backpack and book, along with hugs from Penny and the donors. It was a momentous day for everyone!
